Appraisals

People use the word “appraisal” to mean different things. Fortunately, we can help you with all forms of appraisal here at Maloy’s.

Written appraisals

Written Appraisals are detailed documents describing your items for the purpose of adequately insuring them, or establishing value as part of an estate. At Maloy’s, all of our written appraisals are prepared by our GIA certified gemologists. They include a photograph of the item, along with a detailed description, grades and weights on all stones, materials used, and an expected replacement or estate value calculated to industry standards. There is a fee for this service.

Verbal appraisals

Verbal Appraisals Have more to do with learning about your jewelry than establishing a value. If you just want to learn more about your jewelry, but don’t need exact values or stone details, we are happy to share our knowledge. We can take a look at your item and offer our opinions as to materials, time of manufacture, and ballpark retail value. There is no charge for one or two items, but an hourly fee may apply for larger groups of items.

We buy jewelry

If you are looking to sell your jewelry, and want to know what we would pay for it, you are actually looking not for an appraisal, but for a bid. Just bring your pieces to our shop, and we can let you know what our bids would be. We purchase jewelry all the time, and bring integrity, deep knowledge, and discretion to the process. While we are especially interested in fine antique jewelry, we buy anything made of precious metal, from diamond tiaras to gold bracelets, to silver flatware to broken chains.

If you have questions, or a large number of items, please call us at (503) 223-4720 for information on how to best proceed.
