A proposal tale

B.W. impressed us here at Maloy’s with one of the most romantic proposal plans we’ve heard in a while. Ahead of time, he made elaborate plans with a favorite secluded ski lodge in the North cascades. On Christmas morning, he faked a quick early morning errand and slipped out of their room. Friends soon arrived, and escorted his beloved, K.T. down a long hall in the lodge that had been lined with candles and framed photos of the bride to be… starting with pictures of her past, and gradually becoming more current and bringing her up to the present. At the end of the hall, in the cozy library, waited her future, in the form of B.W. and the extraordinary Edwardian platinum and diamond ring he had picked out for her.

Finding the right place and the right time…

- A PROPOSAL TALE
J.K. Had purchased an especially lovely ring from us, and was ready to pop the question. His intention was to do it quietly, during a weekend trip to San Francisco, at the posh Top of the Mark. Alas, when they arrived, it turned out to be “carnival week”, and the atmosphere was anything but private. J. then steered his girl to the clubby, cozy bar at their hotel, hoping for a more appropriate atmosphere. They sat near the end of the long bar, facing each other. J. was nervous. He gathered his courage, and was just beginning to speak to his beloved, S, when her jaw dropped to the floor, as did the jaws of most of the other patrons glancing toward him. While dozens of people stared aghast in his general direction, J. Panicked… Did he have something in his teeth? Were people reading his mind? Was this a dream? Finally, S. pointed directly over his shoulder, to the young woman seated just behind him. This inebriated young woman, in a misguided attempt to garner the attention of the attractive bartender, had hoisted her blouse, and was displaying her assets to him.

J. And S. fled the bar, and headed up to their room, where J. finally found the serenity and romance that had proved so elusive. He proposed. She said yes.

A (charming but somewhat graphic) PROPOSAL TALE

J.K. Had found the perfect ring. As he and his beloved ate a tasty dinner she had prepared, J. feigned choking. Coughing vigorously, he covered his mouth with his hands. He gasped for air, alarming her somewhat, but then calmed his “cough”, and stared in amazement into his cupped hands, which now held the ring.

Stories from the Shop Floor

4/9/10
THE STORY – R.Z. Loved a ring. She came in months ago, to get a necklace repaired, spotted the Art Deco diamond ring in our case, and it was love at first sight. R. mentioned it to a friend, who wanted to see it too, so they came in together “to visit”. The friend ooh’d and ahh’d and so R. mentioned it to another friend, who wanted to check it out too. This went on for a few weeks, until the sad day that R. brought in a friend to visit “her” ring, only to find it GONE! Yes, there were a few tears.

THE TWIST – R. was one of the lucky ones. Unbeknownst to her, the ring had secretly been purchased by her fiance, (tipped off by friend #2), who held on to it for several more weeks before presenting it to a shocked and delighted, (and tearful), R.

THE MORAL – Come visit our rings as much as you like, but once you know a ring is “the one”, please put a deposit on it! Our vintage rings are one of a kind pieces. Once they go, they are gone, and until we perfect our time machine (we are working on it), we can’t travel back to 1925 to get you another one just like it.
