E.C. came in to re visit a favorite ring in our shop. Her beloved, M, could not be with her, because he was stranded at home with a broken leg. While E. tried on assorted sparklies in the shop with Julie, our phone rang. Unbeknownst to E, the caller was M, (who had known where E was heading). He spoke in secret with staff member Nina, who gave him a blow by blow report as E looked around. Once E found just the right ring, and asked Julie to place it on hold so she could talk to M about it, M gave Nina the go-ahead to run it on his credit card. Imagine E’s shock and delight when Nina presented the ring to E, in a special box, and told her the ring was paid for! Smiles and squeals all around, and a wonderful homecoming to M. for sure.
A few days later, a sweet note arrived from E. “I can’t thank you enough for helping my boyfriend surprise me. Your kindness and understanding will always be remembered. Thanks again, you are great!
Moral of the story-
We are almost always happy to “play along” with a clever little plan you cook up… just give us a heads up. It is always an honor to be a part of your special story!
E. recently emailed us this little bit of love-
I came in last week during a visit to Portland on vacation. My boyfriend and I found out during our visit that there is no sales tax in Portland so while he went to meet a friend on business I spent the day searching for a ring. Out of all the stores I went to the service was by far the best at Maloy’s. As soon as I walk in Nina greeted me and asked what I was looking for. I described the type of ring I was looking for she pulled out every ring she though I would like to try on. I found the ring I loved and she told me all about it and its history. She even took the time to write it all down for me so I could tell my mom. You guys had it cleaned and sized in an hour since I was leaving the next day and she had the insurance claimed mailed to me all the way to South Carolina! I just wanted to let you know I had an AMAZING experience at your store and I LOVE my ring. We hope to visit Portland and your store again soon!

My husband & I researched your services online and we were both extremely impressed with your philosophy and knowledge. He and I then visited you on Saturday (12/4) we came in with a semi-mount and a diamond hoping that you could set it in time for my birthday (12/13).
Nina greeted us when we walked in. She was absolutely fabulous to deal with! She is without a doubt the most personable and knowledgeable representative that I have ever met at a jeweler! She even educated me on the care for my particular setting to make certain that I knew how to avoid costly repairs and helped me set expectations for possible upkeep and costs in the future. Her demeanor and care instantly put as at ease which is so extremely important – it is hard to find a jeweler that you can trust!
She mentioned that due to the Christmas holiday it may be about 2 weeks before you could get it back to us. My husband mentioned that it was a birthday gift that he was hoping to have to me by 12/13. She made a note and said that she would do her best.
I received a call today (12/7) that the ring was ready! I could not believe how fast you were able to help us! My husband and I just got back from picking it up. I literally cannot stop smiling! The workmanship is beyond compare! It is impeccable! I cannot tell you how pleased I am there just do not seem to be words to describe how wonderful it looks! And I have to say again how impressed we were with the staff there. Everyone has been so incredibly kind to us. We have found a new jeweler for all of our needs and we will recommend you to all of our friends!

I simply cannot thank you enough for being so incredibly kind to me yesterday, Saturday, the 3rd of July. I came in about an hour before the store closed with my antique wedding ring that had a loose center diamond due to very small prongs that (as I later found out thanks to Maloy’s) had not been repaired or re-tipped, despite a promise from “Jeweler X”, where we purchased the ring, that they would be before we took the ring home. I had tried to take it earlier in the day to Jeweler X, where we had purchased it, but to my dismay the store was closed early (like four hours early!) with no explanation. I was heartbroken because we are having some pictures with my fiancee’s family taken today, and I hated the thought of not being able to wear my ring or having to worry the whole time about the center stone falling out. Well, I don’t have to worry any more! The moment I walked into your store I was greeted by a warm smile and hello, and the woman who helped me was genuine and very knowledgeable. I could not believe that the owner was willing to take the time out of his busy day (right before a holiday weekend, no less!) to not only look over my ring, but tighten the center stone and come down to talk to me about my ring. I think he even polished my ring! He didn’t even charge me for all the help he gave me. I just can’t say thank you enough, and I hope that you all know that you now have a very loyal customer who will be back time and time again. Thank you, thank you, thank you! All the Best,

Hi Shan,
I just wanted to thank-you again for the beautiful work you did on my ring. I love it and can’t stop looking at it! When P. and I first started looking for a ring I wasn’t sure if I would find anything that I really liked. But as soon as we came into your store everything just fell into place. First, we didn’t feel uncomfortable as we had in some other stores. The environment you have created is warm and inviting yet also elegant. Then, your easy going and genuine manner helped us relax a bit. It was really a pleasure talking to you and hearing your ideas on things. I didn’t know what I was looking for when we walked in, but when you described what you would do to my great-great aunt’s ring- I knew that was exactly what I wanted. It meant a lot to me to be able to keep the one family ring that I liked, but in a more beautiful form. Our daughter J. is also delighted with it (do you remember you told her you were actually making it for her?) P. just says he’s happy if I’m happy and I am very happy- so there you have it.

Dear Maloy’s staff,
I am the woman who wanted to buy the art deco dinner ring this January. .. I
didn’t want you to think I had forgotten about the ring or found something
else. Instead, I remember it with a lusty fondness, bordering on Lord of
the Rings obsession… I must also tell you how wonderful your shop is, a
bright gem in and of itself. Your taste is impeccable and every person I
spoke with was charming, well-educated and courteous. I didn’t feel
pressured at all and in fact, received some very good advice when it was
suggested I wait to buy the ring I really wanted rather than settle for the
cheaper second best… I have never bought fine jewelry before, but I fully
intend to in the near future, and when I do it will be at your shop. I look
forward to that day.

Deco ring. She is currently paying it off, interest free, with our layaway
